Growing British Industry Through Procurement

Public procurement in the United Kingdom is no longer regarded as a purely administrative process focused on compliance and lowest cost. It is increasingly recognised as a strategic tool for advancing national priorities, driving industrial growth and ensuring that taxpayer investment delivers tangible social and economic value. On 26 June 2025, the Cabinet Office launched a major consultation proposing amendments to the Procurement Act 2023.

These amendments are designed to strengthen the link between procurement and the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy, reinforcing economic resilience, promoting fair market access and creating high-quality jobs across the nation. The consultation presents an opportunity for suppliers, buyers and stakeholders to influence the direction of reforms that will shape the £385Bn annual public procurement marketplace for years to come. With the consultation closing on 5 September 2025, the timeframe for engagement is short – but, according to Tracker’s analysts, the potential impact is considerable
